Publishing virus scanner signatures for LAN clients
To keep its own scanners up-to-date, DEFENDO mirrors the signatures on the builtin FTP server. If the same scanner is installed
on local clients, the FTP mirror can be used to update them. This will reduce Internet traffic. You have to reconfigure the
clients to no longer update from the vendor's server but from the FTP server of DEFENDO instead. Depending on the scanner,
the signatures are available from in the following subdirectories:
- Kaspersky
- /pub/kaspersky/
- F-Secure
- /pub/fsav/
- McAfee
- /pub/mcafee/4.x/
If, how often and from which server DEFENDO updates its mirror is configued in the "Expert -> Virusscanner" menu.
If the LAN clients have McAfee version VSE 7.0 or newer installed you will have to change the mirrored directory in the "Expert -> Virusscanner". Instead of the default "ftp://ftp.mcafee.com/pub/antivirus/datfiles/4.x/" you will have to use "ftp://ftp.mcafee.com/CommonUpdater/".
