No Internet access, processes get killed

Do you encounter problems with DEFENDO services being stopped all of a sudden so that e.g. you can no longer browse the Internet or send emails? This could be caused by low system memory. Please check turn to menu "Monitoring -> Log files" and check if the log "important messages" contains messages like this:
VM: killing process ...
If this is the case, the system is running out of memory. First of all you should update to the most recent version. Odds are that the problems are caused by a bug which has been fixed in the meantime. If this doesn't help, please check the following list of other possible reasons:

SPAM filtering on machines with 128 MB memory or less

Since update 4.2-4.2 the SPAM filter requires much more memory. So systems with only 128 MB or less will run into problems. Only hardware which is already older than 3 years is affected. Please add more memory or consider a complete hardware update. You DEFENDO dealer has some interesting offers for you.

No limit for number of parallel proxy virusscan processes

Particularely when using the McAfee virusscanner, memory consumption can explode if the number of simultaneous scan processes has not been limited. Please check setting "Number of concurrent virus scanner processes" in menu "Expert -> Proxies -> Web proxy" on tab "Virusscan"

What to do if the problem occured?

It is often difficult to find out all of the affected features, so we recommend to reboot the system.
Attention!
If you just installed an update, please wait for at least 5 minutes after the update completed before you initiate the reboot.
